World Peace Day 2025: CAGEAD Calls for Collective Commitment in sustaining Peace

Peace is more than silence, it is justice, reconciliation, and shared responsibility. As the world unites together in commemoration of the international Day of Peace 2025 under the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World”, the Center for Advocacy in Gender Equality and Action for Development (CAGEAD) reaffirms its dedication to peacebuilding in Cameroon’s conflict-affected Northwest Region. Through its grassroots work, CAGEAD has continually sought to address the root causes of violence and marginalization by empowering women and girls, engaging men as allies, and promoting inclusive dialogue across communities.

Through its UNSCR1325 project, CAGEAD has empowered several women leaders across Divisions such as Boyo, Mezam, Menchum, Ngoketunjia, Bui, and Momo to act as agents of change in their communities. These women, trained and supported, are forming peace clubs, facilitating dialogue, addressing gender‐based violence, and working with men and traditional leaders to shift harmful norms retarding peace.

CAGEAD's peacebuilding initiatives which includes community peace clubs, conflict-resolution training, and engaging women and youth in leadership are active examples of advocacy turned to action. These not only addresses the trauma of conflict but also dismantle harmful norms around gender-based violence. The organization urges community members, local authorities, traditional leaders, churches, and families to join together in peacebuilding efforts such as including women in decision-making, to resolve conflicts peacefully, and to uphold human dignity as the foundation of lasting peace.

In commemorating the international Day of peace, CAGEAD also amplifies advocacy toward change, pushing for policies that protect women and girls’ rights, securing funding for peace programs, and strengthening community peacebuilding institutions. Through these, a peaceful society is ensured where empowered women, girls and the community at large equally contribute to sustainable development.
