Marcela’s Vision as CAGEAD's MHM Ambassador for Mezam Division

Masanga Marcela-Bright, CAGEAD MHM Ambassador Mezam

On May 28 2025, during the celebrations of World Menstrual Hygiene Day at CAGEAD’s head office, Masanga Marcela-Bright was crowned as the Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Ambassador for Mezam Division. This moment was both a celebration of progress and a call to tackle taboos surrounding menstruation, which Marcela accepted with an open heart and determination.

Marcela-Bright is an Upper Sixth Science student and Senior Prefect Girl at Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Bamenda, with her recognized role as a trained peer educator and MHM club coordinator in her school, Marcela brings a compelling blend of academic care, honest empathy, and innovative leadership skills to her new position. In her own words, “This is not just a title, it’s a commitment to every girl and woman in our community. To be entrusted with this role means I carry the hopes of those who have long suffered in silence. I promise to transform that silence into knowledge, empowerment, and dignity.”

Marcela-Bright explaining her vision

In her role as MHM Ambassador, Marcela envisions herself spearheading initiatives that will explain menstrual health, promote awareness, and break the cultural barriers that have long stigmatized this natural process of young girls and women. Marcela committed to train her peer educators to ensure that the message of menstrual dignity reaches every corner of the division. Marcela added;

“I believe every girl deserves the right to manage her menstruation with confidence and without shame. My goal is to help create a period friendly community where education replaces misinformation and every individual feels empowered to stand up for their health rights.”

Her recognition as MHM ambassador is not only a personal honor but also an example of hope for many. Marcela’s vision extends beyond classroom and community. She intends to contribute to creating long-lasting initiatives, advocating for provision of affordable sanitary pads and improved health services.

Beyond her plan, Marcela’s emotional reflections on this crowning moment reveals her deep passion and commitment.

“Today, as I stand here, I see not just an opportunity to educate, but also to heal the wounds inflicted by years of stigma and silence...My journey is about ensuring that each story of hardship transforms into a narrative of hope and empowerment.”

she added.

Her words remind us that leadership is as much about heartfelt conviction as it is about actionable plans.

Marcela is driven by the belief that a period friendly world is a world where everyone can access the tools and education necessary to manage their menstrual health with dignity. By implementing sustainable practices and mobilizing grassroots support, she is set to redefine what it means to be an ambassador in a community that has long been in need of such transformative leadership.
