70 IDPs and vulnerable persons in Santa and Ntamulung communities Find Hope in Success Stories at Startup Kit Distribution

Hope blooms amidst 70 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ntamulung and Santa communities as CAGEAD and IOM in partnership, distributed vital income-generating startup kits during the second phase of the project “Building Resilience And Improving Livelihoods For The Promotion Of Social Cohesion And Peace Within Affected Communities Of Ntamulung And Santa Village In Mezam Of The North West Region Of Cameroon”  More than just materials, the event carried a powerful message of resilience and possibility. During the distribution sessions, 2 beneficiaries from the project's previous phase, 1 in each community spark hope in the hearts of the current beneficiaries with words of encouragement as they shared their success stories. While thanking CAGEAD and IOM for the assistance, the beneficiaries spoke passionately about the challenges they faced as IDPs, the initial uncertainties, and the role the startup kits played in their journey towards building resilience.

Nanga Priscilla an IDP and former beneficiary in Santa community gave an inspiring account on how her newly established provision store business turned out successfully. She explained the growth of her business after receiving the kits, allowing her to sell her items and restock her store which has made it larger. She also mentioned that from her earnings, she was able to multiply the initial support received and was now able to meet her personal needs. Nanga encouraged the new beneficiaries to focus on expanding their businesses and emphasized that while the beginning might be challenging, perseverance and dedication will lead to success

The previous distribution of income generating activities also made a significant impact on the Ntamulung community, with former beneficiaries sharing powerful testimonies of success in their various businesses. One of such beneficiary Idam Celine who received kits to start up a table market business was present at the event to share her story.

Idam Celine, 2024 beneficiary

"I am grateful for the assistance provided by CAGEAD and IOM. I was given items to begin a table market and at this point, I am at the level of a store. Before my business became successful, my top priority was expanding my business through reinvestment and restocking, ensuring I did not misuse the items which enabled me to support my family and meet my daily needs.  I would encourage you to do same and save a portion of your profits daily."

Excited beneficiaries from Ntamulung

The new beneficiaries gave their keen attention to the testimonies, their faces reflecting a mix of hope and determination.  Some expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to hear firsthand how others had overcome similar obstacles.  The stories from these beneficiaries serve as a motivating example on how hard work and commitment can turn small beginnings into sustainable livelihoods, motivating the IDPs to take ownership of their future.
