1st Winner of CAGEAD’s MHM Creatives Contest Pledges to Intensify Menstrual Hygiene Advocacy

During the MHM Creatives Contest award ceremony held on May 28, 2025, the Centre for Advocacy in Gender Equality and Action for Development (CAGEAD) declared Ndam Albright Mayah, a Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Bamenda, as the champion of the MHM Creatives Contest.
The contest was launched as part of CAGEAD’s efforts to provide a platform for young people from across the country to use their creativity and talents to raise awareness, advocate, and educate on menstruation. Participants were called to submit original video content including skits, rap, or slam poetry centered on menstrual hygiene management (MHM). Mayah emerged as the overall winner among 23 contestants, earning an impressive final score of 79.83%.
Mayah shared the motivation behind her participation saying,
“Menstruation is rarely talked about among young people, especially teenagers, yet they are the ones who need the message the most. I wanted to use my poetic skills to educate girls not just my siblings, but the entire community on how menstruation is a natural process and how best to manage it.”
Overwhelmed with joy at being declared the winner, Mayah pledged her commitment to continue promoting MHM through creative means. “This win has truly motivated me. I’m going to use my voice to raise awareness on all aspects of menstruation. It’s not just about the biological cycle it’s also about knowing what to do, how to handle it, and breaking the silence. I plan to use slam poetry to reach out to both girls and boys who are less informed about menstruation,”

This MHM Creatives Contest demonstrated the role youths have to play in demystifying menstruation, promoting menstrual hygiene, and ensuring positive change in their communities. when youths are empowered, they can become powerful agents of change.
